How we work
We level the playing field for telecommunications service providers in New Zealand, giving equal access to a network that was previously only available to one company.
In short, we give all service providers (Access Seekers) access to the copper local connections that used to belong solely to Telecom.
Unbundled local loop services allow this to happen, guaranteeing equal access to technology and our national local network infrastructure.
Three ways we're unbundling
1. Regulated UCLL (unbundled copper local loop)
This gives access to existing network equipment and copper lines. In effect, leasing a direct connection between an Access Seeker and their end subscriber.
2. Regulated UCLL co-location
This gives Access Seekers the option to place their own network equipment in our exchange making it easier to manage and deliver their own advanced network and telecommunications services.
3. Regulated UCLL backhaul
This gives access to connections between local exchanges or direct to Access Seekers. In effect, providing the backbone for an independent network.
As you might imagine, equality for all customers is paramount. Price, product and service must be the same for all, that's the principle set out in the Standard Terms Determination (STD) regulatory documents.
