Network Build Update
We continue to make ongoing improvements and upgrades to the Chorus network around the country. The largest upgrade and deployment is now part of the UFB and Rural Broadband Initiative programmes.
We operate an open access network. We work with many different phone and internet service providers and we want information on our fibre rollout and cabinet upgrades publicly available.
These are very technical documents and files. If you are looking for information on when fibre is coming to your street or what broadband services are currently available visit our mapping tool. This tool has been built on this technical information.
- Chorus' UFB Rollout Information
- Chorus' RBI Rollout Information
- Unbundled Low Frequency Copper Service (UCLFS) Availability
- Sub-Loop Extension Service (SLES) Availability
- Cabinet migration schedule
- Cabinetisation notices and forecasts
- Distribution cabinet information notice
- Exchange and cabinet boundary shape files
- Impacted Planned Cabinet Addresses
- Impacted Exchange Addresses
Chorus' UFB Rollout Information
This report lists UFB POIs including the exchange and cabinet names as well as the deployment schedule timings.
These files contain the shape and KML files for:
- our UFB candidate areas
- the first year deployment plans
- existing business fibre areas
This information will allow you to plan for the rollout of ultra-fast broadband and identify the areas where you can connect your customers to Chorus' existing fibre services ahead of the UFB network deployment. These shapefiles can be dropped into Google Maps to allow you to identify specific areas.
If you have any question please contact your Chorus Account Manager or email us.
Chorus' RBI Rollout Information
The RBI rollout focusing on delivering fibre to priority entities such as schools and medial facilities. Based around the rollout of fibre to these we are installing cabinets in rural areas which will provide a DSL-based service.
These shape files highlight the approximate broadband coverage areas for our first year RBI rollout. While each RBI cabinet or exchange coverage area will highlight whether speeds of 1Mbps or 5Mbps are the expected attainable peak information rate, this is indicative information only and a formal prequalification check is required to confirm service availability.
This is an indicative list of the cabinets Chorus has identified for upgrade or installation for RBI. The list is subject to change as we work with regional stakeholders and communities to identify priorities and opportunities for extending broadband coverage.
Our deployment plans are subject to final approval from the Ministry of Economic Development. More details for cabinet upgrades, such as dates and coverage areas, will be provided as roll-out plans are finalised with local communities and Government.
RBI Year 1 and Year 2 Shape Files:
Unbundled Low Frequency Copper Service (UCLFS) Availability
The UCLF Service is a service that enables access to the low frequency in Chorus’ copper Local Loop Network that connects the end-user’s building to the handover point in Chorus’ exchange.
This list contains the exchanges and cabinets through which UCLFS is available.
For a list of locales where UCLFS with UBA is available please refer to the UBA with AS Voice Cabinet List.
Sub-Loop Extension Service (SLES) Availability
Chorus provides the following update of SLES availability at distribution cabinets throughout our network.
We are providing a regular update of indicative SLES withdrawal dates for roadside cabinets where the copper feeder, supporting the SLES service, is to be removed. This schedule will be updated on a quarterly basis with the intention of providing a forecast for a twelve-month period.
Cabinet migration schedule
Chorus is providing a regular update of indicative customer migration dates for new roadside cabinets. This schedule will be updated on a weekly basis with the intention of providing a forecast for a two-month period.
In addition a list of alternate Cabinet IDs is provided where the original planned ID differs to the final ID.
Cabinetisation notices and forecasts
Chorus' plans for cabinetisation are detailed in the documents below, as required by the UCLL and UCLL Co-location Standard Terms Determinations.
This includes the most recent Cabinetisation Forecast and Cabinetisation Notice provided under clause 38.9-38.15 of the General Terms of the Determinations.
Please note that this document includes cabinets equipped with either ADSL or ADSL2+ capable equipment (see column J for clarification). The dates listed for cabinetisation and cessation of supply do not necessarily indicate the actual date when customers will benefit from cabinet upgrades. This may be up to 90 days after the date listed.
Distribution cabinet information notice
A distribution cabinet is equipped with power and other support services which, when equipment is installed in the cabinet and/or associated pedestal, DSL services are able to be provided to one or more end users.
We provided regular updates regarding distribution cabinets under the Standard Terms Determination for Sub Loop Unbundling. A forecast of distribution cabinets likely to be commissioned within the next 12 months is also provided.
Please note that the distribution cabinet information provided reflects Chorus' current records. Chorus will update the information to correct any errors as they are identified. Service providers are responsible for ensuring that they use the most recent information available, which will be the version accessible from this webpage.
Exchange and cabinet boundary shape files
The exchange and cabinet boundary shapefiles cover all cabinets deployed between January 2008 and December 2011.
Impacted Planned Cabinet Addresses
The data tables include the Cabinet ID and XY co-ordinates of all street addresses within that cabinet's area.
The co-ordinates of street addresses have no relationship to the location of Chorus' or any other operator's customers or plan, other than it is in the planned cabinet area. (Access Seekers will be able to "look up" addresses of existing or future customers to see if they will be affected by cabinetisation).
The shapefiles include data allowing coverage and identification of the polygons to be loaded into a GIS based system.
Impacted Exchange Addresses
The data includes all Exchange areas affected by the planned cabinets, with Exchange ID and the XY co-ordinates of all the addresses within that Exchange area.
The co-ordinates of street addresses have no relationship to the location of Telecom's or any other operator's customers or plan, other than it is in the planned cabinet area.
The shapefiles include data allowing coverage and identification of the polygons to be loaded into a GIS based system.
