Our Products

While copper products are core to Chorus’ portfolio today, Chorus’ success and future growth requires an innovative approach to product and service development that responds to the transition from copper to a new fibre world. Chorus is working closely with retail service providers and the wider industry on development of these new services, and has recently re-launched it's VDSL proposition.

Our products are used by our customers, telecommunications service providers, to deliver voice, broadband and data services to New Zealand homes and businesses.We offer a full suite of products delivered over our copper network and new products designed to provide access to the UFB fibre network.

Our products are structured in a way to provide our customers a logical pathway to move from a basic broadband service to ultrafast broadband.

Fibre

Offering retail service providers the ability to deliver a 100 Mbps service, or more over our new Ultrafast Broadband network or our existing business fibre network.

NGA Evolve (Bitstream 2) Supports the delivery of residential or small business solutions and includes the ability to deliver a voice service over fibre. With NGA Evolve, retail service providers can easily address their customers’ needs pber the new Ultra-fast Broadband network. 
NGA Business (Bitstream 3/3A) A highly flexible layer 2 GPON solution over fibre which supports business-grade applications, such as voice, Citrix and Virtual Private Networks. NGA Business delivers up to 100Mbps of dedicated downstream and upstream bandwidth with VLAN (Virtual Local Area Network) transparency. This makes it ideal for medium businesses or branch offices. 
HSNS Premium (Bitstream 4) The top-of-the-line access service that allows service providers to meet the high performance demands of corporate customers, schools and medical centres. HSNS Premium has a wide range of access and service bandwidth options, including a new top access speed of 10Gbps of dedicated downstream and upstream bandwidth with transparent VLANs (virtual local area networks), ideal for supporting complex business-grade applications. 
HSNS Lite (fibre) An Ethernet-based layer 2 data access tail product that allows service providers to extend their network reach or build their own business grade private network product. HSNS Lite delivers functionality to meet the needs of corporate and larger end-users to support high-speed, real-time applications or multiple services over a single access point
Intra Candidate Area Backhaul Service providers can use this service to connect with high value customers without having to install equipment in their nearest exchange (central office). The Intra Candidate Area Backhaul Service (ICABS) can be used to extend the fibre access connection to your equipment in another exchange or to connect footprints in two exchanges within the same candidate area. 
Direct Fibre Access Service Gives service providers access to what is commonly known as ‘dark fibre’. This connects a service provider's customer to their equipment in the exchange (central office). At one end, the single fibre terminates on a connector beyond the External Termination Point (ETP) at a their customer’s premises.  At the other end, the fibre terminates on an Optical Fibre Distribution Frame (OFDF) in the service provider's footprint at the exchange
Bandwidth Fibre Access Service  Gives service providers access to what is commonly known as ‘grey fibre’, to connect their customer with their equipment in the relevant exchange (central office). At one end, the fibre terminates beyond the External Termination Point (ETP) and is connected to Chorus’ equipment at their customer’s premises. At the other end, the fibre terminates on Chorus equipment within the service provider's footprint at the relevant exchange and is then connected to their equipment. 
   

Enhanced Copper

Enhanced copper products play an important role in the progression to fibre service. These are delivered over our Ethernet network.

We will continue to invest in these product including expanding coverage, increasing dimensioning and additional features such as Dynamic Line Management.

Enhanced UBA (EUBA) Our market leading Layer 2 copper-based broadband service. EUBA offers a real-time channel dedicated for voice simultaneously with a second channel to deliver a best-effort internet service.
Chorus VDSL Chorus VDSL is a service targeted towards high bandwidth broadband end users. It broadband at delivered at faster speeds that standard ADLS2+. It is suited to high end residential users and small businesses who have high data requirements. This service was previously referred to as WVS.
HSNS Lite (Copper)  Layer 2 data access tail product that allows service providers to extend their network reach or build their own business grade private network product. HSNS Lite delivers functionality to meet the needs of corporate and larger end-users to support high-speed, real-time applications or multiple services over a single access point.
Baseband IP Enables the delivery of PSTN analogue telephony services over copper to the end user and SIP Bitstream to the service provider's handover connection. Baseband IP is for the delivery of voice services only.

Basic Copper

Our basic copper portfolio incorporates core regulated products that, while an important part of the portfolio, have limited scope for further development.

These products are delivered using older (ATM) technology. It includes many of the regulated products:

Basic UBA Allows retail service providers to offer own-branded internet-grade broadband services over Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) copper access lines. It is available with or without POTS.
UCLL Is the metallic path facility (MPF or copper pair) that goes from a retail service provider's customer’s home or business to the main distribution frame (MDF) in the local exchange.This allows service providers to deliver their own copper based services to customers who are connected to the exchange via our local copper network. 
Sub-loop UCLL Is the metallic path facility (MPF or copper pair) that goes from a retail service provider's customer’s home or business to the distribution frame (DF) in the roadside cabinet. Sub-loop UCLL enables service providers to extend their reach beyond those customers connected to the local exchange, to customers who are served from a distribution cabinet. Service providers can install their own phone or internet equipment in one of our local roadside distribution cabinets and have complete control of their phone and internet service offering from development to delivery. 
SLES Is a commercial offering from Chorus that lets retail service providers make the most of their UCLL network. Used in conjunction with a sub-loop UCLL service, this lets them use our copper transmission between the local exchange and related distribution cabinet so that they can connect their UCLL equipment to their customers. This means they can extend the reach of services they have developed based on equipment they have installed at the exchange, and continue to deliver these to their  customers connected to the distribution cabinet.
Baseband Copper Lets retail service providers deliver a PSTN analogue telephony services over copper from their customers to their handover point in the local exchange
UCLL backhaul  UCLL Backhaul is the fibre connection between your co-located UCLL equipment in the exchange and the nearest available point of interconnect. This means you can build your own network and have complete control of your phone and internet service offering from development to delivery.
UBR Backhaul

Each end-user is located in a coverage area. The end-users’ traffic from numerous Digital Subscriber Line Access Multiplexer (DSLAMs) in a coverage area is carried to the Handover Point over Local Aggregation Paths dimensioned to support the throughput rate for Basic UBA. The service provider can interface to each of the Handover Points directly or may choose to purchase UBR Backhaul service for the delivery of traffic aggregated to another coverage area where they have a Handover Link.

Sub-loop UCLL Backhaul Is the fibre connection between a retail service provider's co-located UCLL equipment in the distribution cabinet and the associated local exchange. This means service providers can serve customers hosted off distribution cabinets, giving them complete control over the phone and internet service offering from development to delivery.

Infrastructure

We provide commercial access to our exchanges, poles and other infrastructure. Retail service providers and other network operators are able to place their equipment in Chorus exchanges.

Exchange Space Retail service providers can use our Exchange Space service to build a network to deliver services to their customers from a single location.
Central Office & POI With our Central Office and Point of Interconnect (POI) Co-location service retail service providers can install their equipment in an exchange (central office) to build a network. This means they can deliver fibre services to their customers from a single location. 
Jumpering Service At the Central Office the Jumpering Service connects the end of a fibre access service (such as Direct Fibre Access Service or Bandwidth Fibre Access Service) to another fibre access service of the same type or a backhaul service (such as Intra Candidate Area Backhaul Service or a third party service).
Open Duct Our Open Duct service gives retail service providers access to our surplus ducts, so they can install and manage their own fibre equipment to provide services to their customers. 

Field Services

Premises Networking Delivers the installation smarts so retail service providers can provide media and communications services seamlessly to their customers over a fibre connection. This solution includes a range of Premises Wiring and Customer Premises Equipment (CPE) components to complement a standard Next Generation Access (NGA) installation.
