About Us

What we do

Chorus has three main functions. All are focused on giving New Zealanders greater choice and better phone and Internet services.

1. Local loop unbundling (UCLL) and co-location
This allows any telecommunications company to use our network by installing their own equipment in our telephone exchanges.  Read more about Chorus Products

2. Fibre to the node (FTTN)
The FTTN programme is the upgrade of our network to boost broadband speeds up to 10 Mbit/sec and beyond in many more areas. The aim is to practically eliminate broadband "slow-spots". Read more about Enhancing the Broadband Network

3. Field services and maintenance
Installing lines, establishing new sites, fixing faults, carrying out routine maintenance, not to mention helping builders and councils avoid digging up our cables with on-site cable location (Before U Dig). Read more about what to do Before U Dig

4.  Mobile Network
Chorus also helps build and maintain mobile networks. To meet increasing customer demand for better mobile services and coverage we are building a new nationwide mobile phone network for Telecom.  This means upgrading existing sites with new mobile phone technology and in some cases, we will need to build new mobile phone sites to address coverage gaps or provide service to areas with high demand. Chorus has made a commitment to engage with communities when building new or upgraded mobile phone sites in line with resource consent requirements and the Telecommunications Carriers’ Forum (TCF) Guidelines for Undertaking Community Engagement for Wireless Telecommunications Facilities.

For futher information, see the following brochure on mobile phones sites.
