Artist Rangi Matthews has taken the idea that we all need to work together to get anything achieved and applied this to one of our cabinets on the corner of Earl Richardson & Kellow Place, in Wiri.
He says his art "represents people working together as one".
This mural is part of a partnership between the Beautification Trust, Chorus and Wiri Biz, the local business association.
Wiri Biz was keen to get some art work in their area but we have limited funds available, so they have taken on paying the artist fee for three extra murals, while we are covering the materials. The Trust is managing the submission, selection and providing support for the artists.
The team's reason for selection of this design is: The team were impressed by the quality of the artwork and design and appreciated the inclusion of Māori art styles. We agreed that this design and its message of ‘working together’ would fit well in the industrial/business area that the cabinet is located in.
