Choosing a new broadband plan?

Right now, at this very moment, approximately 1.4 million New Zealanders could upgrade their broadband. So there’s a good chance you could be having a better experience online. Before you call your broadband provider to ask for better, there’s three things you should consider to ensure you get the broadband connection that’s best suited to your household.
What’s the best broadband available?
For the best online experience possible we recommend you get the best connection available. It might be cheaper than you think to upgrade your current broadband.
Click here to find out what broadband options are available in your area or take a look at sites like Broadband Compare and Glimp to compare the cost and availability of different plans.
What am I doing online and when am I doing it?
There’s nothing more annoying than settling down to watch your favourite streamed show and being met by the spinning wheel of death. To make sure everything hums along consistently at the time of day when you use the Internet most (usually nights and weekends), we recommend getting the most reliable connection you can. Take a look at TrueNet’s report which compares the performance of different broadband types at different times of the day. You’ll be able to see which connections available at your place will provide the most consistent performance, even during the busy hours between 8pm to 10pm.
How much data do I need?
Before you sign up to a contract, it pays to think ahead. Households and small businesses on the Chorus network used an average of 135GB each in March – that’s ten times the amount of data we were using just over five years ago. Average household data on our network continues to increase every month as we have televisions, phones, smart watches and more using our broadband connections to operate. And with 4K televisions and online streaming services such as Netflix becoming the norm, that trend is set to continue.
Take a look at our data calculator to get an idea of the data your household is using each month. We recommend you opt for an unlimited data plan to make sure it will fit your needs now and in the future - and to avoid any additional charges.
At the end of the day, better could be just a phone call away. But we’re all different and what better looks like is different for every household, so making sure you have a reliable connection that suits your household, with enough data to do what you need to do, will make sure you’re having the best experience possible watching, chatting and working online.
