TAKING ADVANTAGE OF BETTER BROADBAND

Across the country, more than 100,000 households are now able to do more with better broadband on our network.
Streaming, browsing, listening and living the digital life they want has become a reality over the last year as they have taken advantage of a better broadband option available at their address. And you could too because better broadband is within reach to almost two thirds of New Zealand homes and businesses on our network.
VDSL technology (that’s very fast copper broadband) is now more widely available thanks to upgrades to our network, and fibre is ready to order in more and more parts of the country every month.
A better connection generally delivers faster speeds, less compromise on quality and a better experience online. And looking at activity on our network in July, we can see many of you are already enjoying the faster speeds and ability to do more online.
Go faster, do more
- For the first time ever, the average connection speed on our network reached 30Mbps in July – on par with entry level fibre speeds and almost 60% faster than a year ago
- The faster your connection, the faster data moves through it which basically means you can do more in a shorter space of time
- The faster the data’s travelling through the pipes, the more you use. In July, the average amount of data consumed per household on our network hit 108GB for the month, yet another new high and an increase of 6% from June
- And this is only going to increase. By mid-2017, we estimate that the average usage in Kiwi households on our network will hit 166GB of data used in a month. That’s a whole lot of streaming, Skyping and downloading

If you’re able to upgrade to fibre or VDSL, it’s a good time to look at how much data is included in your plan.
With data consumption predicted to increase significantly in the next 12 months, it might be time to talk to your broadband provider about unlimited plans – that’s one without a data cap – which means you can do as much as you like online without worrying about running out of data.
