Our process: what you need to know

Whether you are carving off your back section, building one dwelling, multiple units, or an entire high-rise, we can help you get connected to Chorus’ world-class broadband network. Whatever the scope of the job, there are five steps we will work through with you. Keep reading for an overview of each step and what you can expect.

1Before you get started

There are a few things you should think about during your planning phase; including checking if any existing network is around your site. Make sure you get things started early, to allow us enough time to finish the work before any new occupants move in. We will need some details from you, so it is good to have this information prepared before you request a quote.

2Quote and agree

Provide us a few details via your online account to get the quote process underway. Once you've been sent a quote and are happy to proceed, we’ll get you to agree to the terms and conditions and pay the contribution online. If you’d prefer you can print a copy of the Contract to discuss with your lawyer. Once you have agreed and paid, your job will be assessed in more detail and we will provide you with an update on the next steps.

3Design and build

Before they start, our contractors will complete a design of the work required to bring our fibre network to the boundary of your site. We will let you know what needs to happen inside your development site and what parts you will be responsible for. Once the design is completed, the actual build work to extend our network will get underway.

4Clearance and easements

While the build work is underway, we can also assist with the necessary compliance paperwork. This is in the form of a clearance letter which confirms exactly when future tenants or occupiers can connect to a broadband service. You can submit this to local Council to satisfy the 224c requirement. We will release the clearance letter as soon as certain obligations have been met, including supplying a draft Land Title plan showing any required easements.

5Preparing to connect

Once the fibre route has been installed, and provided you are building a dwelling on the site, we can also deliver pre-built fibre as part of our service. This means when the dwelling is nearly complete, we’ll come and install the actual terminal box inside the home or building. The property is then fibre ready so that when someone moves in, they just need to request the service from their chosen provider and no further site visits are required.
