What is an ONT?

An ONT or Optical Network Terminal is an internal connection point to Chorus’ fibre network and is also commonly referred to as a fibre box. It connects the modem supplied by your broadband provider or purchased yourself, to the Chorus fibre network. The different ONT model types are as follows:

Do I take the Optical Network Terminal (ONT) power cable with me when I move to a new house?

No as the power cable specifically belongs to the ONT as its unable to be used with any other device. If you are moving to a new house, please leave the ONT and its power cable behind so the next occupant can use it to connect to fibre.

Is the power cable for your Optical Network Terminal (ONT) missing?

If your property already has fibre installed but the power cord for your Optical Network Terminal (ONT) is missing, you can order a replacement cord and we will courier one to you for free, depending on your location, you should receive this within 2-4 working days.

Do you need your Optical Network Terminal (ONT) power cable posted to an alternative address?

I have plugged in my ONT, but I cannot connect to fibre?

If you have already had an ONT (optical network terminal) installed at your house this means that Fibre has already been installed.

Please contact your broadband service provider to have your fibre connection activated and they will be able to further guide you on getting your broadband up and running.
