In many parts of the country two networks are in operation – copper and fibre. Wherever possible, we recommend installing fibre infrastructure for the best experience. Check out our broadband map to see if your development falls within our completed or planned Ultra-Fast Broadband (UFB) fibre areas.
There are some locations, especially rural areas, where fibre infrastructure is not available and copper is the only option. Check here to see what’s available at your development.

- Estimate (Optional - if required)
We develop an estimate based on the information provided to give you an indication of the costs. If you decide to proceed, we will conduct a formal scope and provide a contract and quote.
We develop a preliminary plan for your project based on the number of lots and connections. We then assess what needs to be done to service and reticulate your development.
- Provision of contract and quote
We provide you with a contract. This includes information about what we intend to do and any actions that you need to complete, along with a quote that is valid for 90 days. Click here to see how costs are calculated. Any costs associated with any work outside of the boundary of your development will be included in this quote.
- Acceptance of contract and quote
You accept the quote and the work required by signing and returning the contract to us, along with any associated payment in full. We’re unable to begin work on your development until the signed contract and payment are received.
Our service company will then begin work on the detailed design so the build can begin.
Chorus will typically supply all materials needed to reticulate your development for fibre and retains ownership of this infrastructure. Installation of these materials within your development is your responsibility and cost, but our Service Partner will work with you during the process. Once the initial build is complete, our technicians will connect your development to our network, testing the work as well as linking the development with our cabinet or exchange.
Under the district plan covering your development you may need to provide a certificate of completion to the council to receive your Completion of Resource Consent Conditions (often referred to as 224c Certification). We will provide this certification once all build and quality assurance testing is completed by our Service Partner. Once the network has been installed and commissioned, ongoing repairs and maintenance of the network becomes our responsibility.

Important things to note:
- Once the build and installation is complete, you’ll need to supply our Service Partner with accurate Local Authority registered addresses to be recorded in the Chorus Network database to make sure future orders can be processed accurately. At design stage, most developments have Local Authority registered road names and allotment numbers, with room or unit numbers added during the early build phase. The final road name and street address information is usually available at build completion.
- The build work only delivers the communal network to the boundary of each lot, including in shared Right of Ways. A lead-in pipe is then needed to get the network cable from the boundary to each new dwelling. This is the future property owner’s responsibility to install unless you, as the developer, are installing the lead-in pipe to each dwelling in which case the responsibility is yours. Connecting the property to our network is only done once a service has been requested from a broadband provider.
