Getting connected safely

As the physical world for Kiwis shrinks to the boundaries of their property and neighbourhoods once again, reliable internet matters now more than ever to work, live and learn.

Chorus is continuing to carry out broadband network installations, fix faults and perform network maintenance at this time, but with additional safety measures in place in keeping with New Zealand’s current Covid-19 protection framework settings.

These measures include:

  • All technicians will wear masks and maintain social distancing when visiting a customer’s property.

  • Pre-screening checks to assess health status of customers will be carried out before any visit to a customer’s property

Please note these measures are subject to change. For more information, go to the Government’s Covid-19 Protection Framework .

In addition to the safety measures our technicians are taking in the field, several other initiatives are in place to assist public and stakeholders as a response to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Helping school students

Helping school students

To help meet the education needs of school students we’re pleased to play a part in connecting the thousands of New Zealand homes without internet access.

Chorus has offered to provide service providers/retailers with a free wholesale broadband service to support up to 50,000 homes identified by the Ministry of Education as not having internet. This will see us waiving the normal monthly wholesale charges to retailers for six months.

When it comes to internet access, Chorus is one player in the wider New Zealand connectivity fabric that keeps the country online.

We provide wholesale access to our network so that retailers can then sell their broadband plans and packages to you.

At times like this with significant economic pressures on the horizon, it’s about pitching in together. That’s why we’re working closely with our retailer customers to support them and ensure New Zealander’s broadband needs continue to be met.

Equally, our ability to maintain our network and provide the country with internet, couldn’t be done without our service partners and the technicians in the field. We continue to work with them, to ensure any field activity is conducted safely.
